What happens you pit the best superheroes in the world against the most powerful villain? You get “Avengers: Infinity War,” arriving in theaters May 4, 2018. Not only does this movie have the largest collection of superheroes, it promises more exciting archery scenes with actor Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye.
The last installment of the series, “Captain America: Civil War,” ended with the Avengers in shambles. In this third movie, bad-guy Thanos seizes the opportunity to destroy the earth. “Thanos shows us why he’s the biggest, the best, the baddest villain that we’ve ever had,” said producer Kevin Feige in the official first look.
In “Avengers: Infinity War,” Thanos attempts to collect the six Infinity Stones and wield the Infinity Gauntlet, which is a tool Thanos can use to wipe out the world. He’s the most powerful villain the Avengers have ever faced.
“’Avengers: Infinity War’ is the culmination of the entire Marvel cinematic universe as started in May of 2008 with the release of Iron Man 1,” Feige said. “It really is an unprecedented culmination of films.”
Of course, what’s an Avengers movie without Hawkeye unleashing a fury of arrows at the bad guys? Jeremy Renner is back, playing the world’s best archer, Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye. Renner’s character is sure to bring plenty of archery action and is rumored to have a bigger role than ever.
A new addition to the Avengers is the Star-Lord from “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which stars real-life archer Chris Pratt. Pratt is an outdoors enthusiast, and is known for his archery prowess. (Maybe he gave Renner some pointers?)
In the movie, Hawkeye always boasts stellar archery gear; fans are anticipating which bow he’ll use to save the world in “Infinity War.”
In “Age of Ultron,” Hawkeye used a Game Master II recurve. In “Avengers,” he used a Hoyt Buffalo to fight off Loki and his army of aliens. Hawkeye obviously likes Hoyt recurves, so maybe we’ll see him shooting the new 2017 Hoyt Satori recurve.
In “Captain America: Civil War,” he shot a Win&Win Rapido recurve bow. If Hawkeye sticks with Win&Win, he might shoot the Black Wolf recurve, which features a carbon-fiber riser. Hawkeye has also used compound bows, such as the Mathews he shot in “Thor.”
Like most archers, Hawkeye’s arrows are an important part of his equipment. In the movie, he’s shooting Easton aluminum arrows with black fletching and points fit for a superhero. His arrow points vary from exploding arrows to blunt tips. He might even have something special in store for Thanos.
Want to shoot like Hawkeye? You can buy his archery gear (aside from exploding tips!) at an archery store. All you need is an all-black recurve bow, a back quiver, and black aluminum arrows with black fletching. Then, maybe after a few archery lessons you’ll be on your way to shooting just like Hawkeye.
Hawkeye is the “best on-screen archer in the world,” but how does his equipment stack up against the best competitive archers?
Hawkeye’s equipment closely resembles the bows used by top barebow archers, like Team USA’s John Demmer. Barebow archers are masters at shooting recurve bows without sights, and the accuracy they achieve is practically super human. They use modern recurve bows featuring material like carbon fiber and aluminum. Even Hawkeye’s aluminum arrows have won indoor world championships at the hands of these top archers. For outdoor archery, the best archers use carbon fiber or arrows made from a carbon aluminum composite.
Do you think you have what it takes to shoot like Hawkeye? Pick up a bow and give archery a try. And don’t forget to check out the “Avengers: Infinity War” movie next May!
