It’s that time of year when archery hunters are breaking out camo and game calls, and planning when and where they’ll set up in the woods for the best chance of harvesting an animal.
As it turns out, there are plenty of famous people who love to hunt, fish and enjoy the outdoors, too. Here’s a round-up of 10 ideal celebrity, archery hunting buddies – nine of whom hunt in real life, and one of whom is a sharpshooter with a bow.
Avril Lavigne, singer
Lavigne’s first manager, Cliff Fabri, told EW.com: “She goes hunting all the time with her brother and dad.”
This pop star proves you can hunt and still be a punk – in a good way. What’s not to love?
Blake Shelton, singer and “The Voice” co-host
At their wedding, Blake Shelton and wife Miranda Lambert served venison they harvested themselves.
Shelton’s a real-deal hunter whose humor would keep everyone entertained. Plus, there’s a small chance he’d bring his good friend Adam Levine along!
Chris Pratt, actor
In 2012 interview with Outdoor Life, Pratt said, “Some people fast, some people go on a cruise or visit a day spa. I get out in the woods with a rifle or a bow. That’s my release.”
You’d have the option of rifle or archery hunting with Pratt, and if it’s a slow day in the woods, his hilarious sense of humor would be entertaining.
Bo Jackson, retired athlete
Of Jackson, “Wide Open Spaces” said, “This baseball and football superstar is a great bowhunter. He was featured on an episode of “Relentless Pursuit,” showing composure, respect for animals, and grilling skills.”
Bo knows hunting, and anyone with grill skills will probably cook you a delicious post-hunt meal.
Jennifer Lawrence, actor
She learned to be a huntress while shooting “Winter’s Bone.” She got lessons on how to hunt squirrels and skin them, as well as on how to chop wood and work farm equipment, plus she learned how to shoot a bow with archery lessons from Khatuna Lorig.
Aside from seeming like the best friend and/or girlfriend everyone wants, who wouldn’t want to hunt with someone who could skin the squirrels after a hunt?
Eva Longoria, actor
Long before she became famous for her role as Gabrielle Solis on “Desperate Housewives” she was growing up in Texas and hunting alongside her father. She reportedly skins her own game.
A long-time hunter who isn’t afraid to skin the game she harvests would make her a valuable hunting companion.
Luke Bryan, singer
On social media, Bryan proves hunting comes as natural to him as being a country boy and singer. Plus, he seems like a lot of fun.
Shaquille O’Neil, retired NBA player and current analyst on “Inside the NBA” TV show
O’Neil reportedly calls his hunting excursions “shaqfaris” and in an interview with “The Wall Street Journal,” he said he spends about $1,000 each week on apps – including hunting apps – for his phone. “I’ve always been a tech geek,” O’Neal said. “I’m not ashamed to say I’m a geek at heart … last week I bought like 20 deer-hunter games. I like hunting the deer on my phone.”
Shaq could put up a fairly tall ladder stand without any help, and he’s on the cutting edge of using technology while he’s hunting. He probably has all of these 10 Bowhunting Apps for Smartphones.
Brett Favre, retired NFL quarterback
Favre, a lifelong outdoorsman, told “Outdoor Life” that his take on deer hunting totally changed when his brother-in-law gave him a bow. “I’m not a trophy hunter, but I like the challenge,” Favre said. “It comes down to how patient and how vigilant you can be if you want a five- or six-year-old deer. They don’t come easy. But it’s also the peace and solitude, and the chance to get away from everything. There’s nothing like it.”
As he proved during his NFL career, he’s strong, tough, and won’t retire until he’s ready. That’s the kind of guy you need at hunt camp.
Rosie Huntington-Whitely, supermodel and actress
“I come from a farm in the middle of nowhere … I’ve shot a few pheasants and a few rabbits,” she said. “Everything gets eaten on the farm. It’s where food comes from.”
Aside from having hunting skills she perfected while growing up on a farm, and the fact that “hunt” is part of her name, her fashion sense would surely inspire outstanding hunting wardrobe choices.
