Archery Video Dude Perfect Releases New Archery Video

Dude Perfect just released another archery trick-shot video. The Dude Perfect team does some amazing aerial archery, long-distance shots, no-look shots, and shots from a helicopter in flight.

However, the guys don’t use their usual compound and recurve bows. They’re using the new Dude Perfect Nerf bow, which looks like a combination of a compound and longbow.

The video generated 14 million views in just one week in mid-September. Their previous archery trick-shot videos have 10 to 40 million views. With 22 million YouTube subscribers, the Dude Perfect guys are definitely internet celebrities.

Dude Perfect consists of Tyler Toney, Cody Jones, Garrett Hilbert, Coby Cotton and Cory Cotton. Before they became a pop-culture sensation they were five best friends who started by making videos of basketball trick shots just for fun.

They grew up in Texas and always loved the outdoors. They’re fishermen and duck hunters, and Cody Jones and Tyler Toney are the group’s bowhunters. They hunt white-tailed deer in Texas and have also hunted elk together. The archery skills they highlight in their videos certainly help them in the woods.

Best Archery Trick Shots

While we look back at how they got started in archery, let’s also look at some of their best trick shots. This includes popping balloons at 300 yards and the classic stunt of shooting an apple off a head. They even created a video for Archery 360’s trick-shot competition.

The Helicopter Shot

Such shots like these present several challenges, one of which is accounting for downdrafts from the helicopter’s whirling blades, which obviously affect arrow flight. Photo Credit: Dude Perfect

One of the coolest shots in Dude Perfect’s latest video was Tyler Toney using his compound bow to launch an arrow from a moving helicopter. Such shots present several challenges, the first of which is accounting for downdrafts from the helicopter’s whirling blades, which obviously affect arrow flight.

Toney must also account for his lead. Instead of aiming at the target, he aimed well behind it to account for his forward movement in the helicopter. His arrow flew true and shattered a glass bottle into a cloud of dust.

Aerial Archery

Hitting a stationary 4-inch target is challenging, but hitting the same size target when it’s moving 40 mph is impressive. Cory Cotton did just that when using a recurve bow to shoot a clay disk out of the air. To accomplish the feat, he had to instantly calculate the target’s trajectory and his arrow’s flight path, and release the arrow to intersect the flying disc.

The Long Shot

Tony aimed at a glowing weather balloon 345 yards away, which is 4.5 times the distance of Olympic archery targets, or nearly 3.5 football fields in length. Not many people can make it on the first try. Photo Credit: Dude Perfect

For this amazing feat, Toney aimed at a glowing weather balloon 345 yards away, which is 4.5 times the distance of Olympic archery targets, or nearly 3.5 football fields in length. He then shot an arrow without much fanfare. There’s a long, quiet pause between the shot and the arrow’s impact, and then cheers erupt as his arrow strikes the balloon dead center.

If you enjoy watching impressive archery shots, you’ll love trying them yourself. To help you step up to the challenge, visit an archery store, get fitted for a bow and start shooting.
